After a fairly disasterous evening, I attempt to recover Mathis's systems.

Backup * Read an "interesting article":http://www.mikerubel.org/computers/rsync_snapshots/ on using rsync to do incremental backups * Created a script on rhubarb, 'rotate-backups.sh' to test things:: #!/bin/sh cd /usr/local/zaurus-backup/snapshots rm -rf daily.7 mv daily.6 daily.7 mv daily.5 daily.6 mv daily.4 daily.5 mv daily.3 daily.4 mv daily.2 daily.3 mv daily.1 daily.2 cp -al daily.0 daily.1 rsync -a --delete /usr/local/zaurus-backup/data/ daily.0/ Zaurus * Flashed with Open Zaurus rom 3.2 * Linked root stuff as per JCards installation * ssh-ed to zora and set password * stopped opie with '/etc/init.d/opie stop' * edited /etc/ipkg.conf to include the OpenZaurus stable, "Opie1.0":http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/openzaurus/1.0 and "floop":http://feed.floop.org.uk feeds. * ran 'ipkg update; ipkg upgrade' a number of times * had problems with it hanging and needed to reboot a couple of times * finally got things updated, but opie refused to start * found 'opie-update' package and tried installing that. * still problems, so forced overwriting using 'ipkg -force-overwrite upgrade' * almost there -- must close error windows on reboot <hr /> * Started again. Reflashed twice and ran the 'ipkg opie-update' stuff above, waiting patiently for it to finish (seemed to be some problem writing to the internal flash). * Reformatted SD card (afer backing it up) and followed OZ documentation for moving /opt, /home and /root/Document|Settings|Applications to /mnt/card, see http://www.linux-migration.org/ch05s10s05s04.html * Copied backed-up settings, documents etc. to card * Installed most of the packages originally on the SD card * Need to re-do znetbackup Apt * Installed "apt-get":http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/redhat/8.0/apt/ on ellen. * Added floop apt repository to /etc/apt/sources.list.d * Added kde for redhat apt repository * Upgraded with 'apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade'.
